Out of the Darkness - World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering

On World AIDS Day, Friday, December 1st, American Run for the End of AIDS, Gay Men's Health Crisis, and the International AIDS Prevention Initiative will host the 26th "Out of the Darkness" World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering. This year, the Gay Officers Action League will be serving as a sponsor of this event. We encourage all members to come and participate in observance. WHAT: World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Gathering WHEN: Friday, December 1, 2017 1800 Hours - Candlelight Vigil 1900 Hours - World AIDS Day Gathering WHERE: Candlelight Vigil New York City AIDS Memorial Greenwich Avenue and West 12th Street, Manhattan After a short Candlelight Vigil we will march with the Ceremonial Unit and Members of the Pipes and Drums of the New York City Police Department Emerald Society from the AIDS Memorial to St. Johns Lutheran Church, 81 Christopher Street, New York, NY. There will be a non-denominational service lasting approximately one hour at the church and refreshments provided by ShakeShack afterwards. GOAL NY Member Dineen Lopez will sing the National Anthem at the New York City AIDS Memorial. Dress Uniforms are authorized and are to include 8 Point Hat, Reefer Coat or Summer Blouse, Black Hi Gloss Shoes, Mourning Bands. All Members are invited to attend on their own time or on job time at the discretion of their Commanding Officers and should report to the NYPD Ceremonial Unit Personnel by 1730 Hours. There is ample parking in the area. All GOAL Members from City, State or Federal Partner Agencies are invited to attend and participate. If you require assistance in obtaining permission from your agency to appear in uniform please contact Brian Downey at bdowney@goalny.org. It is a great honor for GOAL to be invited to participate in this event. Members wishing to stay in the village at the conclusion of events to enjoy the Manhattan nightlife are welcome to change out of their dress uniforms at the 6th Police Precinct which is located at 233 West 10th Street.
