Our Mission

The Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) supports LGBTQIA+ law enforcement officers and criminal justice professionals, advocates for fair treatment and opportunity within the workplace, and engages the public honestly about who we are and the work we do.

We serve from within the institutions of law enforcement, with integrity, accountability, and respect for the communities we serve.

Our Values

  • We believe credibility matters.

Our members uphold professional standards in their work and in their advocacy. We speak accurately, act responsibly, and do not claim authority we haven’t earned.

Integrity means saying what is true—even when it’s inconvenient—and standing behind it.

  • We advocate for LGBTQIA+ officers and criminal justice professionals to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect—without exception and without special carve-outs.

    This includes equal access to:

    • Hiring and assignments

    • Promotions and advancement

    • Benefits, protections, and due process

Equal treatment is not a political position. It is a professional expectation.

  • Law enforcement can be isolating. Being LGBTQ+ within it can add another layer of risk.

GOAL exists to ensure our members are not navigating those challenges alone.

    Support means:

    • Standing with members when issues arise

    • Protecting confidentiality when it’s needed

    • Offering guidance grounded in experience, not theory

  • We believe law enforcement must be accountable to the public it serves.

That accountability starts internally—with policies, leadership, and culture—and extends outward through transparency and engagement.

Advocating from within does not mean avoiding hard conversations. It means having them responsibly.

  • Visibility matters when it is honest and grounded.

GOAL does not exist to perform. We exist to reflect reality.
LGBTQIA+ people serve in the criminal justice sector, across agencies, assignments and positions.

Being visible helps challenge assumptions—inside institutions and outside them.

We show up to work.

We show up for each other.

And we show up in public—visibly, responsibly, and without apology.
