2019 NYPD Pride Celebration Honorees
Please join Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill and the Gay Officers Action League NY on Tuesday, June 11th as we celebrate pride month and 37 years of serving with pride and to celebrate this year’s honorees.
This year’s honorees include:
VISIBILITY AWARD Phyllis L. Bindi Chief of Police East Orange Police Department
Chief Phyllis Bindi made history at the East Orange Police Department in January of 2017 when she obtained the rank of Chief of Police; the first female to ever be promoted to this position in the City of East Orange. She also made history in September 2016, when she was the first female ever promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief in the City of East Orange Police Department in New Jersey The Chief has been leading the department for 3 years, leading a Department of 212, sworn personnel, in a densely urban City that borders the largest City in the state.
ALLY AWARD James R. Waters Chief of Counterterrorism New York City Police Department Chief James R. Waters commands more than 1,000 uniform and civilian members of the service across seven divisions, including the NYPD-FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), Citywide Counterterrorism Unit, Counterterrorism Division, Lower Manhattan Security Initiative, World Trade Center Command, Critical Response Command, and Bomb Squad. Chief Waters is a senior advisor to the Police Commissioner on all counterterrorism matters including counterterrorism investigations, technology and systems development, inter-agency collaboration, project implementation, budget, and grant management.
This FREE ticketed event is open to the public and will include live entertainment, light food, refreshments and a presentation of awards at 1 Police Plaza. Doors open at 5:00 PM | Program begins promptly at 6:00 PM.
